An axle (also called a hinge) always attaches between two geometries, or between one geometry and the background. The background doesn't move, or any geometry that is attached to the background doesn't move either. Therefore, it is no problem connecting a flywheel to an immovable object through an axle. Does this answer your question?

Oh, I guess my mind reading skills aren't what they used to be.

Okay, all kidding aside, I still don't understand exactly what you are asking, so you need to be more specific. Of course an axle can be made to rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise (which is what we call it here in the U.S.), but I don't believe that that is what you mean. So, please explain exactly what you want to do with the flywheel, and then maybe I (or someone else) can give you a solution. Please be as detailed as possible.

I think english is a second language for GarryG.

my psychic powers tell me he's asking for a ratchet.

I don't know how to make one, but I'm sure it could be made with thyme, or mechanically like how they're made in real life

I remember a ratchet that user kilinich designed, and he posted it in the forum and on Algobox. I believe it is exactly what you are looking for. Here is a link to the forum post that describes it: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5801

Hope this is what you are looking for!
