8th collision layer?

Postby HavingPhun » Mon Apr 04, 2011 12:51 am

i found that collision layer A is 1 on collide set B is 2 and C is 4. So each layer doubles in collideset but i want an 8th collision layer. So that would be 128 in collideset. but when i set it to that 2 objects with 128 as collide set dont collide. So is there a way to make an 8th collision layer?

I wouldn't think so.
Algodoo is probably only coded to handle seven.

(Though don't trust my opinion as i don't have algodoo....yet)

You can't make an eighth collision layer. Interestingly enough, you can spawn a circle with 128 as the collideset, and when you set it to collide with "a", it is on the collide set 129, not 1. Hmmm...

Use no self-collide. Using that, you can theoretically have thousands, if not more, collision groups.

Lasers don't have that option. Only thing I can think of is to send the last row of lasers in from the other side. Or put some space between the pixels...

Or you could use one row of lasers and have them change collidesets...

*genious*

Use scripted lasers to change the collideSet while scanning across and simultaneously changing colors. Why didn't I think of that before? The pixels themselves alternate collisions onLaserHit. A spinning box and one of Conun's blip gates would put some temporal space between individual blips. Some invisible boxes scripted to change refractiveIndex would control scanning. And one box between the blip gate and the scanner with a simple script and a HIDEOUS amount of IFs would control the color of the laser. Then again, it would be easier to put a gigantic array in scene.my and read off of that. And there would be no real need for the spinning box/blip at all. Just run all the code at each blip.
