Algodoo for education

Postby admin » Tue Sep 01, 2009 9:07 pm

Hi,
This is a very first version of a forum for discussing educational use of Algodoo. This forums is intended for:

1 - Questions and suggestions regarding educational use of Algodoo
2 - Sharing your experience and collaborating with other educators
3 - Research projects using Algodoo (these can get a private forum if they want!)
4 - Posting of concrete use cases and success stories, lessons etc.
5 - Anything else reagarding educational use of Algodoo. Suggestions welcome.

Please note that lessons eventually also can be posted on the website under "lessons". The website is running Mediawiki (like Wikipedia) and thus supports on-line editing, multiple languages, keywords, searching, hierarchies etc. We are still working on the lesson system and will add many more lessons, as well as video tutorials.

A version of Algodoo optimized for SMART boards will be released as soon as we have finished the development, and Q&A of it.

A white paper describing the educational use of Algodoo for different key stages and ages is in preparation, and a scientific peer-reviewed paper describing learning in Algodoo is also in preparation.

Please also refer to http://www.algodoo.com/wiki/FAQ for additional relevant information about Algodoo for educational use.

Hope my school gets Algodoo's installed on PC's so we can use them there too! Can't get enough at home!

You know you can actually pitch the idea of having Algodoo at your school.

Yea, but I doubt they'll agree. They are going to consider it a game that is not educational, but that is not really the case.

It seriously depends on how you pitch it. Kids have associated educational with boring when they hear something is educational they automatically assume it is boring. To the view of a child Algodoo is a game, the educational aspect is hidden. Any adult can see the educational uses of Algodoo.
