Laser wont cut

for some reason, the laser wont cut straight edged objects such as squares. Can anyone explain why? Am I just being a bit dumb? The laser cuts circles, so I don't think that the problem is the laser. Please help!

In order for the cutter to work, the laser has to pass all the way through the object. When you create a square and have it sit on a flat immortal surface, then the point of contact along the edge keeps the laser from going all the way through the box. This is not a bug, but normal behavior.
To solve your problem, make the "lift" collide on a different layer than the laser.
