Complex collision bug

Postby Frank » Wed Sep 23, 2009 6:16 pm

It's hard to catch, but it seems like occasionally, complex objects will bounce off of an object with way too much force. I've only ever seen this happen with multiple hinged-together objects or objects in the same body that are very close together when they collide, close enough that they might both register collisions with the other object simultaneously. This bug is rare and unpredictable, but it's popped up the most playing around with complicated soft wheels that have lots of parts and cars with multiple glued-together parts in their underbellies.

Newton's cradle, anyone?

that also happens when you stack a lot of boxes in the top of eachother, then let it to fall.(try to use the spawnboxrow() function for demonstrating that)

Absolutely nothing to do with newton's cradle. There is nothing normal about a car being shot 5-100 feet in the air while driving over a small point. If you paid close attention to my post, you would see that those affects wouldn't be happening in the situations I described. I don't think any of the events have involved circles, but they're always when more than one inter-hinged or same-body box-only or box/polygon combination touches a polygon that's glued to the background. It's very rare. Next time it happens, I'll look at the log for anything unusual and post it if it's there.
