1.8.4 and ATI graphics card
Reported before but it's became worse...
Very high CPU utilization on ATI Radeon HD cards.
Empty scene spend 30% of CPU time to draw (nothing on screen), nVidia: 5-8%
Scene like this takes all CPU time and drop down FPS from max to 30-40, nVidia: max FPS and ~30% CPU time to draw.
tested on:
geForce 8600GT 512Mb, AMD Athlon X2, 2.4GHz.
Radeon HD 3400 256Mb, Pentium 4 3GHz with HT.

Are you using the latest drivers? (http://algodoo.com/wiki/UpdateDrivers)
Have you tried turning off shaders?
How is it getting worse? With new Algodoo versions?

Sure I have latest drivers.
Shaders almost don't affect performance on my systems (due to good graphics cards I suppose).
Yes, since you add something like forces vis on pause, Algodoo consume more processor time on empty scene, especially with ATI GPU
