They took groovy mode away? then how is it that when you press tab while in console that it says groovymode.off
at the top?

I had already tried that. But what the heck? I had to restart my cpu for it to work! It didn't work at all until then!

It's not groovy.on, it's groovyOn
Just enter groovyOn to turn it on, and groovyOff to turn it off.
