I don't want to get banned for this (if it's even possible) but why the hell does heterocollide not work if the things you selected are different collision layers, even if they're the same in every other respect? Why don't they just do it the way it was back in Phun. Where if you had two thing selected they wouldn't collide regardless of collision layer!?

you don't understand how the "heterocollide" function works (probably because you're not reading the tooltip that explains how heterocollide works, which means you're in unsupported land. Good luck, good sir).
Also, Algodoo is not Phun. What's the purpose of having Algodoo behave the same way as Phun? doesn't that defeat the purpose of having Algodoo?

Post back if you don't understand something or still need help.

collideSet and heteroCollide works in Algodoo in same way as in Phun, btw.
Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...
