Algodoo on a pen drive

Algodoo on a pen drive

Postby ditdotdat » Wed Sep 09, 2009 11:40 am

I'd like to buy Algodoo but I want to use it at work and we're not allowed to install software on the computers there. I've tried installing Algodoo for Windows on a pen drive but it won't launch. I think that's because it needs the Microsoft C Runtime component. Is there a workaround for this?

I haven't tested it for Algodoo, but perhaps MojoPac, may be able to fulfill your requirement (try it with the demo first), I was un-able to get this program to work on my current system (64-bit Windows XP), but I've seen the program running on another computer (it looked like it worked well), as far as I know, it should work :D .

Try it out.

Algodoo will work with MojoPac, which is a pretty cool program actually, but MojoPac won't run on a computer which you don't have administrator access to, so that doesn't really help :-(

The issue here is that I'm trying to run Algodoo on computers where I don't have Administrator access. If you don't have Admin access you can't run the installer so I've run the installer on my computer at home, installed the program onto a pen drive, but when I try to run the programme on one of the computers at work it doesn't work.

so basically are you asking if you can run it as a portable application that requires no installing ? i used to run a few programs at my old school ( that were portable apps) so they couldnt realy stop it :) but yer it would be usefull for computers you arent allowed to install anything on :)

Algodoo saves file to windows specific areas on your computer that it needs to have to run that aren't in the main installation folder. so when you install it to a pen/jump/flash/thumb Drive these files aren't saved on it. If you wanted to try and force it you could search your C: Disk For algodoo and copy the folders you find to your pen/jump/flash/thumb Drive and then put them in the exact same location on your work or school computer. Phun didn't do this because of the nature of free programs where as for yours and it's security the program saves files else where.
PS: For my 2 cents worth pen/jump/flash/thumb Drives use flash memory so the most correct term would be flash drive.

Yay! I've got it running. I used VMware ThinApp. It lets you package the whole program, including any DLLs and things, and it runs fine on any computer without Admin privileges and without leaving a trace when you remove it.

You can download a demo from http://www.vmware.com/products/thinapp/

How to get my pen drive data which is not showing? I have a pen drive having 4gb of data. After I scan that pen drive in Mcafee anti virus the data are not showing. Kindly advice how can I recover the data. I also try to see hidden folders option but after that it also not showing. In properties it is showing 4gb of data in use.

try recuva... It might be able to recover some or most files!

After recovering files, you may want to format it and copy your files back...
