CPU Usage

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

CPU Usage

Postby Versieon » Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:57 am

I've found that no matter what I do , algodoo only takes 25% of CPU, never more!
Why would it do this, I would like it to take it all so I can run uber big scenes!!

Post your specs.
Sounds like you have a quad core :)

Ahh, that is true, dang.

Intel Core 2 Quad
Q6600 @ 2.40 Hz
2.39Ghz. 2 Gigabytes of Ram.

They need to be able to access all of them.

Unfortunately Algodoo can only run on a single core, don't worry it is in development to try and fix this.
Well look at the bright side you can run four different scenes at once :D

This is not always true (80% usage on Dual Core (phunland topic)), I've had Phun run at ~93% or so on a Dual Core and 53% (or so) on a Quad Core (thus, 2 or 3 (or possibly even 4) cores) in Algodoo, though I've not heard of any others running on more than one core :D.

Either way, it shouldn't be too difficult to run Algodoo with only a 25% cap on CPU usage, this does allow for plenty of power left for the rest of your computer. Also, looking at that old post of mine, I've realised how much more efficient Algodoo is now :D (32k geometries probably doesn't even use as much CPU, and only uses a bit more than 2GB RAM (bit of a shame that it crashes ~2GB of RAM when you have so much more it should be able to use :D)).

So, although it is possible to use multiple cores, it's unlikely to happen :D (at least in quantities above ~35% of 4 cores).

:D

you first have to enable it.

Code: Select all
Threading.numThreads = 2

for example for 2 cores. it's very far from perfect but on my pc the inactive core gets a bit more active. with Threading.numThreads = 1 the cpu power has got a peak at 53%. with Threading.numThreads = 2 it had a peak at 56%.
yeah it's not much but they're going to work on dual core support they said
