No self collision isn't working.

I tried to build an oncollide engine today. From the way I see it, you're supposed to have a killer box about halfway down the cylinder to delete the object that drives the piston, so the cylinder doesn't just fill up with stuff. The problem is, the piston gets stuck on the killer box even though I've got selfcollision turned off. I tried just changing the collision group, but then the cylinder wouldn't collide with the thing that makes the engine fire, so it didn't work.

Hey,
make sure that both of the piston and the killer box's self collision is turned off and make sure that both the object's collision layer is the same or else it won't work.

I tried that, and it still gets stuck.
