Compressed air

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

Compressed air

Postby djcs » Sat Feb 12, 2011 9:02 am

Hi, this isnt a bug or anything like that i dont think, but i thought this would be the best place to ask.....

If i wanted to make an air compressor in algodoo, how would i do it?

I dont see that the "air" within algodoo is compressible?

Am i missing something or is this not possible?

If you look at my little demo, the water should at least follow the piston up, or the water should be pushed from the lower pipe from the air pocket generated (that shouldnt ) above the water within the cylinder.

Or am i being too picky?

There's no air pressure in Algodoo. You must use some other thing like circles with 0.01 weight or something like that.
I like crashes alot!

They should implement actual air into Algodoo.

I know the Powder Game has a pretty sufficient air engine thing. If you've ever played it, you know what I mean.
If not, Google it.

It calculates the pressure at each block of air and calculates how muck wind should be generated.

Come to think of it, this would mean excessive lag.
Maybe create an option on a box that would make it not collide, divide into a big grid, and only calculate air/wind on that grid in that box.

Overlapping boxes would increase the calculated area, increasing the resolution of the air section, increasing the lag.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

No, Powder Game is a particle simulator, not a physics simulator. Powder Game uses pixels as measurement, and there's a set amount, where Algodoo doesn't use pixels, and there's a large amount. Powder Game's air engine wouldn't work in Algodoo.

@Chronos- Did you even read this?
IT'S ALREADY PIXELLATED!!!!!!!!
But, I agree it makes little sense. I wrote it at lunch. At school. In the cafeteria. Y'daah.

But, with this, I could make a fairly mechanically accurate pump. With two vertical pistons and a hand crank lever at the top. And it would pump at the upstroke and the downstroke...CONFUZZEDNESS!!! At least I know what I'm talking about...
