Algodoo 1.8.5 does not work with ATI X series (Windows 7)

We get the message about "extremely slow graphic"s as we start Algodoo 1.8.5. The driver is the latest available (Windows update). Attempts to download and use Vista driver from ATI did not apparently succeed (restart of computer did not install the software). The ATI X series, along with many others, are no longer supported but have Windows 7 drivers. This is re-installation of Algodoo on a computer upgraded from XP to Windows 7. Dxdiag shows no problems (see enclosed).

Right now you are using generic drivers that came with windows.
The above link is the official ATI drivers which should fix the problem you are having with algodoo!

Hmm, if you have done the Windows Update it is quite troubling. When you start up Algodoo, we log some OpenGL-specifications. Can you copy the log in the logfile (located in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Algodoo\Logfile.txt) and paste the last entry, at the bottom of the file.

This line of text is showing that the system is using the generic drivers that came with windows.

Windows update will, as it's name suggest, only find updates for selected installed products. It will not advise you to install driver packages, and will only find updates for drivers from selected vendors.

Eboy: the driver you pointed to was the very one I tried to install (twice). Each time, after reboot of the computer, Windows 7 did not actually finalize the installation as it's supposed to -- but then again, this is software written for Vista. I gave up at this point -- this didn't altogether look right. If you know of a simple work-around I'd be happy to try it.

Hmm, as there seems to be no official Windows 7 support for your graphics card and the Windows Vista drivers don't work, I am afraid there isn't much we can do to make it work.

Algodoo requires updated drivers to work properly, and the issue can unfortunatly not be solved on our end.

Sometimes Windows Vista drivers work, but as you have tried that unless you find any other drivers, you need a graphics card that is supported for your OS.

un-install and re-install

If that don't work, try installing the individual driver package.


if that don't work, navigate to (this will have been created when you ran the installer)

and right-click on CL_95951.inf and click install and reboot.
