Among others.

But back on topic. We all have our own opinions of who should make a good mod. But really, we don't have much say.
And I get really annoyed when I don't get feedback on whether or not somebody's actually doing something. Even more so when I notice that Emanuel just made a post IN THIS SAME FORUM.

Since the amount of spam has reduced, the need for another mod doesn't seems to be as urgent, but please let me know if you feel the need for more mods and why.

Yes, Emanuel certainly seems to be very high up on the list of The Best Mods And Admins We Have Ever Had. Certainly #1 at this point. I don't really know about Link, but only because I wasn't there then.

I would probably feel [a bit] more secure if there was a mod as active as several members of the forum.
*cough* Chronos *cough*
And it seems to me that the amount of spam goes up and down. We might need to have our defenses up and ready when the next wave comes.

Wave? *gets out surfboard*

But I am off topic.

We probably will need more mods at some point.

There is more to the necessity of a moderator than just spam and fighting bots. A moderator is required to perform his namesake, which is to moderate the activity of the normal members. He keeps discussions relevant, he locks out-of-control threads, and he bans when necessary when a member isn't obeying the rules correctly. While I believe his actions should be very minimalist and his attitude unchanged as a result of promotion, the presence still needs to be there. The idea behind a law isn't necessarily to punish those who break it, but to be a sort of "scare" people into behaving correctly.

Note that most of the reason we need a moderator is for the living room alone, as the other forums are decently civil. I can think of a dozen threads in the living room that need/needed to be locked but never were do to a lack of moderation. In a perfect society where everyone was intelligent, a moderator wouldn't be necessary. However, as you can probably tell from the immaturity in this thread alone, we have a forum with minors, and that "I might get banned if I break the rules" mindset needs to be there, but it isn't.

That being said, spam is down now, but who says it won't come right back? It took you guys about 2 days to finally get all that pornography/spam/viruses off the forum; meanwhile your userbase, which consists largely of children, were exposed to it. A moderator is a fail-safe, and it should be a response to a disaster but the immediate defense.

The forum needs an active member to be promoted. From what I can tell, people either want Chronos, Me, or Wonkits. Now you can research it yourself but all 3 of us are active, we've all been a part of your community for upwards of 4 years now, and we know what to do. I'm not going to put my own opinion into it, but either of us would be fine. So if you do make another moderator, we feel it would be in the forum's best interest if it was a community member and not another employee of your company. You guys have legitimate work to do. Let the community control the community.

agreed.

i have noticed in the past few months that there is a slight pattern with spam...

we get rid of it, then it just bursts out of control...

A few times, the only reason we have got rid of the spam is because i've sent tatt a message on skype...

I believe that chronos and jrv would be good for the position. They are both active and are both extreamly mature when they need to be, and are willing to have a good laugth, which most people like in a mod! :D

Well said indeed.

JrvUnleashed wrote:Note that most of the reason we need a moderator is for the living room alone...

I'm out then. As you may have noticed, I never go there. And I seem to be in a minority.
Whenever I do go there (twice- once in the argument I had with Chronos in the Displacement Challenge when he linked me to The [fireball] Argument Topic, once here when I dug up Chronos for President), I get a sense that the topic I'm looking at and probably the whole forum is, or is about to become, a really big flameball.

I mean, when I read the Living Room, I very quickly begin to see a metaphoric bonfire casting its metaphoric flames onto my computer screen... and it would really scare me if while running Algodoo in the background, the computer decided to run a really big virus scan, so I began to feel my processor heating up...

It's events like these that make me think that the world (or the community, anyway) might be just a little better place if the Living Room simply did not exist. That's my opinion, please don't spaz on me.

Or, you know, the reason this topic exists is to try and get a solution to those problems. :|

Those events are whenever I go to the Living Room. So the only thing to do would be to either get rid of the Living Room, or put way more time and effort into it than anyone would be willing to do and make those people who go there clean up their act. :|

You've been a part of this community for around half a year. I've been here since May of 2008. Believe it or not, I think we can handle an off-topic forum.

Though judging by what happened on the old forum, you probably would believe it. I think we've all grown up since then, though.

If it were entirely up to me, if and there would be no repercussions (both are false), I would pull a Zuriki on the Living Room. But, I won't, and I think either one of you (or both) could probably do a sufficient job of managing the Living Room.

No. No one even knows you and you can't even spell "tech."

We do really need some though, that's for sure. Seriously, some major spam was left here about eight hours ago and it's still here. That's a bit too much.

I agree with chronos!

The 2 main admins (as in, that visit regularly) live in the uk and japan...
this leaves a fairly big time gap, which generally i have to clear up at 5:30am....

You bump, spam, and use bad grammar, yet you want people to think that you are reliable, mature, and responsible. Hmmmm...

The only thing you're going to get is a ban!
Respect forum rules; e.g. No bumping! No spamming!
also, asking for admin is like asking not to be one. as in, you will never get it with how many times you ask for it!
Hint, when people look for admins for their site, they want someone who is responsible and mature, which you're currently showing an extreme lack of!
