Layout suggestions
I figure we should have a single thread for this, so the admins and such can just look through and go "Oh, avatars should be on the left side... okay... makes sense..." etc. etc.
1. Avatars should be on the left side (because that's where people start reading from, that way they can see out of the corner of their eye who wrote the post, instead of having to look somewhere else first, and then begin reading). Not of major importance, but every little detail counts.
Anyone else?

Re: Layout suggestions
I agree entirely.
Also, I want the ability to change the color of the forum.

Re: Layout suggestions
i agree with the avatars on the left. its way better
i also suggest themes, like the other forum had. i cant use a custom CSS thing, and i bet other people cant too, so it would be useful. there should also be a way to make our own themes. not necessarily SHARE them, but just make them, like define colors for certain things

Re: Layout suggestions
As admin said before, this forum is still pretty new, and they need to sort out stuff before dealing with making it pretty

We know, they don't need to make these changes immediately, or at all, for that matter.. This is just so they can get some ideas of how to improve the forum.
And this might just be me, but instead of alternating the background color with each post to seperate them, I think there should be border around them, of a contrasting color. The current method just doesn't seem definitive enough.
But I'll admit I'm nitpicking now...

I agree about the avatars on the right too. Also, I would like the interface a different colour because at the moment it is blue and the Navigation bar is orange and the two colours are not contrasting very well.

yeah, i would like the cobalt theme back. i loved that theme... i still think my idea for custom themes is the best, thought it may be hard to implement

Using greasemonkey, it's relatively easy to customize this forum, like editing the css, or even the html.

There are like 100 skins available for phpBB3. We will most certainly install more skins and make it possible for you to choose the one you like. We might also change the default skin, which right now is just a default skin with some small changes in it to get the Algodoo header/footer in place.
Constructive comments about layout, skins, and forum structure are very much welcome!

Re: Layout suggestions
I really like the way the Phunland forum is set up. It's very direct. No clutter, no wasted space. I think there's too much going on in this layout. Everything's centered with wide margins, and smooth graphics fill up a lot of space and make distractions. Also the avatars are on the right. What's up with that? If multiple skins are to be offered, I want one that looks just like the Phunland forum.
I like how the blue is being kept. Neutral blue is a good color for a physics game, somehow. Feels right.

Agreed!
The Phunland forum wasn't unecessarily complicated. Everything was perfect

yep, that's phpBB too...
I really liked the simple forum style where the only images in it were the small squares marking unread topics, and the very nicely done smileys in png image format. (not even anti-aliased and still look great)
All forum "buttons" looked like simple links, except for the real "Submit" ones, that looked like the browser default buttons. No fancy images needed.
If this forum can be made to look as simple as that, I'll be very happy with it.
If it's illegal to post the above smiley on this forum I'll delete it.
