This is a simple CVT transmission I made after seeing Frank`s bicycle.

How does it works?

It is damn simple - Both wheels can change it`s diameter - bigger wheel with same angular speed - faster rolling speed. Since rolling speeds are always the same (due to linking chain) so angular speed changes.

Automatic CVT transmissions are almost exclusive to scooters where belt is rolling on 2 cones, that can move closer or apart (and therefore changing working diameter for belt). There are 2 sets of cones (one with tensioner) to avoid belt getting loose.

CVT gearbox are not popular in cars due to much higher torque, some reliability issiues and high cost.


CONTROLS:
Z - manipulate LEFT wheel diameter
X - manipulate RIGHT wheel diameter

Huh... In polish "snowmobile" is "skuter śnieżny" and direct translatrion is "snow scooter":D

Nice, but not really useful.
I'm a huge fan of real world things replicated in phun. Also, the reason they're not popular in cars is that One, there's risk, and two, the belts used in most CVTs don't have much strength and durability, so you can't handle much horsepower. I think they're come into style in the future, they're good for fuel economy and acceleration.

Yes, I'm great fan of CVT I've even invented my design (beltless)... Not even knowing that continous variable tramsmission really exists... I was watching Nissan Murano review and then they say it could be equipped with "variable gearbox with unlimited gears" xD I was bit dissapointed, but now I know that design has much diffrences. (my idea was to use 2 cones (in fact little curved) made of high friction material (like clutch pads) next to each other pressed together and tilting them slightly to move connection point.)
