A Rube Goldberg machine (a.k.a. a chain reaction machine) is a large machine that does lots and
lots of tasks to do a simple function. Rube Goldberg machines are impractical, but they're

Rube Goldberg machines are named after the cartoonist Rube Goldberg, who drew diagrams of
these machines.
