It was harder than I thought)
Demo scene for custom event that called once then laser stops hitting geom.

_onStopHitByLaser = (e) => {//your code here}

Add code to geom and you could write your own handler as for build-in events.

The geometry changes color when the laser beam HITS it, and then it changes back to original color when the laser beam stops hitting it. Are you sure that's how it should work? Check out my scene, which only changes the color when the laser beams stops hitting it, and not when the beam hits it:
