Thanks much to s_noonan I have finished this rotary engine. It now runs very smoothly (compared to my first attempt with my derpy circle gears).

NEW:
Adjusted the timing a bit to correct the backfires
Added flywheel

CONTROLS:
. = Toggle Ignition
Up Arrow = Starter
Down Arrow = Engine Brake
D = Release Engine From Background

Not very smooth, considering it backfires and starts shaking uncontrollably.
If you put 0.06 to the timeToLive of the spawned balls, it works better.
also lompilomp is right, it shakes too much. Try adding a counterweight (a rotor that spins in the other direction) and maybe it will work better
I adjusted the timing a little more (while I was just screwing around with it) and I got it to cycle mainly between -40 and -30 rad/s without any issues.
Its now at -46 but jumps up to -50 sometimes:P
Needs a 40 kg flywheel and it's done! It won't shake too much with one
