ngphil did a great job on showing the major three types of firearm operations (Blowback, Recoil, and Gas), and I know how difficult it is to simulate the gas operated version because of how difficult it is to simulate a flowing gas. Although he did the best he can, his mechanical emulation of a gas operated firearm is confusing at best (in my opinion). Even for someone like myself who has a very good understanding of how most firearms operate, the gas version of his tutorial really doesn't represent how the action functions in a real firearm (sorry Phil, no offense intended. You ARE the best firearm maker on Algobox!). And so, by using the magic of Thyme scripting, I tried my best to simulate a gas operated firearm (Rifle). It's not perfect, but I believe that it closely simulates how the gas from the exploding cartridge gets diverted from the barrel to actuate a piston which causes all the mechanical motion to happen which pulls the spent cartridge case out of the breech and replaces it with another one ready to fire again (In this simulation, there is only ONE live cartridge to fire).

Leave comments if you have questions about how this works.

UPDATE: Turned gravity ON so that the cartridge case falls to the ground.

I don't understand a lot about it (though I saw a gas-operating rifle in action from a distance), but I like the mechanism. Good job! (I forgot how to make a thumbs-up smile, lol)
Thanks Luka!

Concerning the thumbs-up, I believe you can only see the smiley faces by using a normal browswer such as Internet Explorer. You cannot see them if you are using the browser that is built-in to Algodoo.
WHY IS IT THAT IF I HAVE SHIFT MAKEING A COMMENT AND HAVE TO BACKSPACE AND USE THE BACKSPCE KEY IT GOES BACK A PAGE?!?!?!?!?! I WANT THIS FIXED!!!!!
buildman - First of all, when you make what sounds like an angry DEMAND, no one, including me, is going to help you. So, calm down and ASK for help in a nice manner instead of demanding that it be fixed.

Second, when you use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, it seems like you are shouting, and it's the same situation. When you shout at people they will less likely want to help you.

Thirdly, I tried to duplicate your complaint and I was not able to. So, try to be more specific as to the exact keystrokes you are using, and I MIGHT be able to help you. If I cannot figure out what's going on, then you will have to ask the forum.
excellent demo, Xray! When you asked me to make that demonstration of the three auto-loading functions, I thought you meant to do so in the methods that can be utilized in Algodoo. As there are no gas physics in Algodoo, a mechanical stand-in for the gas function must be used. Had I known you wanted me to emulate the real thing, I would have done so!
ngphil - Yeah, I was not very specific, and so you did it the way you thought it should be done. And you did a great job on your scene. I could not have done it any better.

I'm not very good at all with making mechanical devices in Algodoo, and so that's why I have to rely so much on scripting. Thanks for the kudos and comments! :)
Nice job xray on the design:D
