This is my FIRST "Gas-Operated" mechanism (WOOHOO!!). I finally, after many frustrating hours seemingly wasting down time after college, came up with my own working gas system to delay the blowback of the action to provide better stability. This is a concept, but as soon as I saw the initial cycle of the action, the smooth stripping of the next round from the magazine, and the ever-so-perfect bolt-lock engaging, I fell in love with this concept. Versus my typical reliance on the brute-force of the round to cycle the action directly, this method is much more stable and can work at lower frame rates. I am planning on adding a 2-round burst mechanism (because two firing modes does not satisfy me when designing complex mechanisms. Maybe some day I will get a license to make a weapon company (Holz Gewehre GMbH, maybe) and create real versions of all my "Next-Generation Firearms". Who knows? I just finished this prototype today after starting it yesterday. A few more weeks of tuning, calibrations, and adjustments may make this simulated weapon quite reliable and fun. Until then, have fun with this (maybe even improve or customize it yourself). |
