This is very interesting, but I don't understand what the optics are calibrating to. Normally, adaptive optics in a real telescope adjust over time to eliminate atmospheric distortion (the "twinkling star" effect).

Could you please explain in some detail how your scene works? What exactly is going on here?

Yes, as you say, a typical adaptive optics to calibrate for fluctuations in the air. However, Subaru, also corrected for mirror distortion due to a change in attitude. Since Subaru has a very thin (20cm) primary mirror. Please rotate the telescope by pressing the left and right key. Mirror is distorted by gravity. The position of the focal point will change. The Spring actuators automatically calibrate.
