In the 'Mission' simulation you have some extra controls.

1 – open parachute
2 – detach parachute from Lander
3 – detach Curiosity Rover from Lander module
left arrow – right thruster (rotates anti-clockwise)
right arrow – left thruster (rotates clockwise)

The Lander needs to be travelling at about 40m/s before you open your parachute (1)
The parachute must not be detached from the Lander until the speed falls below 15m/s (2)
Use the thrusters to guide your Lander down to just above the Martian surface, then detach the Curiosity Rover (3) and let it settle gently onto the ground.
