Active Self Balancing vehicle braked/unpowered/powered comparisson

the ones on the left have the wheelbraked, on the middle, it is unpowered, while the one on the right have it powered

I hope this makes it clear the sensors there only provide input and don`t actually keep the vehicle standing by themselves

so basically it is a gyroscope similar to the ones in things like the segway or what ever it was called. am i right?
