Built and tested in Algodoo [1.8.5].

Hello, this is my beautiful 1909 Anzani 3-cylinder Y-type engine. Well, loosely based on. My engine here is amazing because I have implemented an electronic valve timing system. :*)

How it Works:
This uses laser pens on a cam wheel that spins at exactly 1/2 the speed of the full engine stroke. As the pens come around, the valve spring is lengthened or shortened depending on the code and stroke. As you can see, there are no complex push rods or angled cam wheel pieces. This provides an efficient and well-timed valve system. :y

Operation:
1) Turn on all 3 cylinder laser pens with numbers "1", "2" and "3". This is the ordering of the cylinders in CCW direction.
2) (This is the fun bit) Grab the wooden propeller and spin it quickly in CCW direction. If you have spun it right, the sparking process should begin and the engine is off and running. Let her run for as long as you want, the engine is 100% reliable (okay, maybe 98% reliable).
3) Now to turn the engine off. Simple. Turn off the laser pens with "1", "2" and "3".

Power Adjustment:
Early aircraft engines had no way of controlling power. Thankfully, I have a basic method of controlling power. Simply turn off 1 or 2 of the cylinders at a time to slow the engine down.

Enjoy the mechanical glory. Oh, and engine firing order is like the real engine. 1-2-3 in CCW direction. Also, colour codes have been added for you to see the 4-stroke cycle. 8|

Very nice Torquey motor! 10/10
Can you make a radial engine that has a wide range throttle control? Like from very little power to Super high RPM's? that would be awesome
Yes, variable throttles are quite easy. Gent's variable throttle engine is a good example.

I didn't put a throttle on this engine because the real one did not have a throttle. But thanks for comments and rating! :)
Yeah Gent's engine is pretty cool.
BUT, could you make a Diesel Engine (not radial) with throttle and actual realistic RPM's and torque? The only Diesel engiene i have seen on Algodoo was made in 2009 and I love diesel engines.:) I am "requesting" you to do this as a subscriber and a guy who has played every one of your scenes. OH yeah its also my birthday today haha:*)
Oh well a happy birthday to you! _o_

I'll have to think about a diesel engine ... I think it is quite possible though.
Very Cool  10/10
PS My Napier Deltic is also fully throttleable and is modeled after
a Brittish marine diesel
PSS it would run smoother if you make it fire 1,3,2;)

@Gent Yeah i am aware of your scene i favored it its awesome but i have only seen one diesel engine in algodoo thats actually a diesel.
This is amazing Dare ! Nice timing mechanism, it proves something quite obvious in algodoo, if you can time the works of an engine perfectly, you can pratically use any mean to power it (collision, attraction and so on).
And the best timed engines are the better ones just like this one ;)
10/10

Very satisfying to watch! Well done, Dare!
LOL @ RacecarGuy, you really don't look 15. Why? Simply because you talk like a 10 year old.

@Dare: Great engine. 10/10
@ PooPing, thats a cool engine but in no special way is it a diesel
but it does have cool variable timing throttle;)
@Dare @Gent are one of you going to try and make a diesel engine?
Okay he's gone for a week. I love those fast acting admins. Thanks guys! 8|
It could work either way I guess but most Radials fire alternately
the way yours is setup it fires 1,2,3 then a pause before firing again
which would sound wierd but I supose they could have had a reason
1,3,2 would have even power pulses. I havnt had any luck finding
the firing order for the original engine)|(
On a funny note I bet that if they could have figgured out electronic
valves in 1909 they could have made a throttle:lol:
Haha ^ good one! I'll look into the valve timing, thanks. _o_
@Gent People say that radial engines are pieces of shit, but i see them as masterpieces if they are built right and timed correctly they could be very powerful. I have an idea were 2, 3, or even 4 radial engines are locked togeather so if one is spinning they all are spinning and have them all fire at the right time and put that engine inside a vehicle or a semi and also through a clutch and gears on it as well, they could power a vehicle with great results. Sorry if this is confusing i do not know how to write it up in english haha:blush: .
What im saying is that if you teather 4 radial engines (or 3, or 2), you could produce ALOT of HP and Torque if they are set up right and built right they could power a vehicle if they have a clutch. I have thought this design over and over in my head and I really do thing its a future for radial engines. You can also have a turbo system set up if I invent it right. Sorry if your confused:s i just cant write this the way i see it in my head haha  :bonk: .
Multi row radials are nothing new, check this out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_%26_Whitney_R-4360

the big problem in algodoo is something that complex lags terribly)|(
and realistic RPMs are impossible in a true piston engine becaues the sim
cant keep up:cry:
Yea spring engines can scream but the opperating principal isnt at all realistic:lol:
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! TOOOOOOOOOOO GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/10:tup:
We redid the tractor if you want to check it out, if you want us to install the new motor upload a scene response (or if you want we'll send one with the engine pre installed via email) if you upload it in a scene response we'll get yours done first.
And we redid it with Algodoo so look for the newest one.
Doesn't work in 1.9.7. It seems that the power stroke fires a bit late, so it doesn't get enough torque from that to overcome the next compression stroke backfiring...

But, I think that if this worked, it would work really well.
She works in v1.9.9 b.
