nice for those of you who dont know, monitor and virginia were two of the first armored ships, and once they were in a fight against eachother, but eventually had to quit because they merely dented eachother

yes they're ironclads AND isnt it the Monitor and the Merrimac

Oh wait it is the virginia because it was the virgina then they put iron on it and started calling it the Merrimac

TY every body. Geniusperson1, the confederates captured an old union shipyard with the broken hull of the Merrimac, after doing serious work and labor the Merrimac could float, but they did not want to call it the Merrimac for it was not the union's ship anymore. They then named it the Virginia, because it was a totaly new ship. Hope this history lesson helped!
