We're here again! I bring you this time, a 1920s-esque car, that drives just like a Ford model T (two speeds, one reverse, all pedal-operated).
You might find this car familiar to my other old timer, but I assure you, this one drives and operates WAY better than that thing does.
The original idea for this car was a planetary transmission like the real thing, but that got discarded quickly because Algodoo hates planetary gears it seems.
This car is modular, meaning you can take out the body and replace it with another one! I will upload a full detailed scene on this vehicle after I post this one so you can make (or customize) your own 1920s Fiddolin. You can grab this car too if you want the full body, since I'll be uploading a rolling chassis.
CONTROLS:
Enter: ignition (lock/unlock engine. To start it, you have to crank the engine, you have indicated where the lever is in the scene).
Left/right: less/more throttle
1-2: move the gear pedal back/push the gear pedal down
W (not toggle): engage reverse pedal
Q (toggle): hand brake
S: brakes
HOW TO START AND DRIVE:
This all sounds more complex than it actually is, I'm sure you'll figure out this car quicker than you read all of this just with the controls.
-Unlock the engine with enter, select the drag tool (D) and crank the lever clockwise two or three times (make sure you complete the crank rotation because the crank returns to its original position and that might start the engine backwards). You might find useful having the handbrake engaged for this process. Once you get the engine moving a bit, give it a bit of gas to help it get to idle.
-To get into low gear, give it some gas (you might need to give full gas on a steep), press 2 until you start moving, and let the engine get to a good speed.
-To get into high gear, give it at least half throttle and press 1 until you see the engine revs get low. You might have trouble doing this on an uneven terrain, check ahead of you and confirm there's no significant steeps (steeper than 4°). You might need to give full gas for it not to stall. You basically cannot get into high gear on steeps.
-To get into neutral if you're in high gear you can just press Q because the handbrake disengages high gear. If you're on low gear, you need to press 1 until you see the engine spins freely.
-To go into reverse, you need to give some gas and press W (you have to keep pressed the key for as long as you want to go in reverse).
With this car you get no meters of any kind, no velocimeter, no tachometer, not even a fuel gauge, not even accessories like a starter motor or battery (lights are directly connected to the engine and will dim or get brighter with its rpms). This is as basic as a car can get.
This car likes to cruise comfortably at around 45km/h, the engine revving at around 900rpm or 1100rpm (basically half throttle) but it can get to around 65km/h at full throttle with the engine screaming (redlining at 1600rpm). This car is not meant for speed, but to move at a very reasonable speed through unpaved roads and rough terrains.
The car can climb up to 15° steeps on low gear and even carry +500kg of load doing so. Though I don't know its real limits (other than it getting extremely weak on high gear).
