the video link doesn't seem work in the Algobox. But I managed to find another way to get it. This is Pretty neat!
Hmmm..... I wonder if other people cannot use the link. I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks!
The video link on this page works fine for me. Maybe Cool_S is referring to the link that shows in the Algodoo description when you first open the scene.

I was going to complain about the extremely light ball and massless spring in this scene, but then took a look at my Slinky Defies Gravity scene which has 112 meter 24 kg slinky. So instead I made two scenes, both of which have real properties for the slinky and ball, which I will attach as a response to this scene.

I know that my scene is not quite a good representation of a real-world ball and tether. Lord knows I struggled quite a bit trying to make it look as realistic as possible. The real education is the video. My scene is simply something that crudely demonstrates the effect that people can play with. I knew that you would do a much better job of it if you were to decide to post a similar scene. Thanks for your input!
FYI the angle with no tether should be zero but is shown as (period for 1 revolution)/(sim frequency). In other words, the angle is determined by the time required to make the decision to release the ball.

The rope with the hinge constants adjusted for elasticity looks like a good idea.
s_noonan, you are much more knowledgeable about mechanical systems (and Physics in general) than I am. Therefore, I always learn something from your scenes and your comments.
I saw the video quite a while before you posted this scene and decided making a scene was too much trouble, but after I analyzed what you did, I decided to give the slinky part of it a shot.
Ok, didn't watch the video, predicted it was the center of mass going tangent, placed a tracer on the center of mass, and my prediction was right.
Hey Xray, Im having an issue with algodoo in which whenever I place a component, polygon, anything really, it is always fixated to the background. This is quite annoying, especially when I try to bring in components to my scene, because I have to then loosen the component and some specific components (Cars, Ragdolls, things with axels) completely fall apart.

I checked out the algodoo forum to see if I could post this question there, but it seemed to me I had to register another account, which I really don't want to do. So I brought it here. Thanks for your time!
I see you are using Algodoo v2.1.3. What platform is that for? (iPad? Mac?)
Mac
Unfortunately I know nothing about the Mac version of Algodoo. I use only a Windows computer. You can try to ask about your problem on the Algodoo forum, but hardly anyone uses that anymore. And the other sad issue is the fact that Algoryx is no longer making any changes or fixing any bugs in the various versions of Algodoo. I've been told that they may devote some time to it in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath. I wish I had a better answer for you. Sorry.
Hey Cool_S, let me know if this idea would work for you until you can find a more convenient fix for your issue. Each time you add an object to your scene, just do the following before you try attaching anything else to it.

1. Right click on the object, then hover your cursor over "Geometry actions".
2. If the object is glued to the background, the top line will say "Loosen". If the object is NOT glued to the background, the top line will say "Glue to background". If it says "Loosen" simply left click on that word "Loosen" and you're all done. If it says "Glue to background" then there's no need to do anything. It's a simple thing to do until someone fixes that issue.

Will that work for you?
It Kind of works, Loosening single polygons works, but when I loosen complex components I saved, (such as cars, ragdolls, things with axles) The loosen destroys the axles. So for the meantime, I'll have no components, which is a bummer. Im going to try redownloading Algodoo a little later on. But Thank you for your time trying to help!
You're welcome!
WAIT! I figured out how to remove an object from the background without all other items getting unglued from that object.

1. Select ALL objects that are glued together including the one that is attached to the background.

2. Click "Loosen" only one time.

That will unglue the one main object that was glued to the background while other objects will remain glued to that object. I tried it and it works perfectly!

I tried your trick, it sort of works. Still when do the trick with a ragdoll, his limbs and stuff fall off. I'm just going to relocate all of my files and redownload Algodoo. That should fix it. I really appreciate that your trying to help me as much as you can though! Thank you!

Okay, no problem. I hope you'll get that issue resolved because I know how frustrating those little annoyances can be!
Set app.defaults.glueToWorld to false or reset Algodoo.
THANKS! I didn't know about that, and it just might fix the issue that Cool_S is having.
I finally fixed my Algodoo! Tried deleting and redownloading it but than it repeatedly crashed whenever I launched it. After dabbling through computer files I fixed it =D. in the end I basically reset Algodoo. Thank you very much for helping me!
No problem!
