I've been trying to make a solid 3D cube for many years, and I finally figured out how to do it. It's not "perfect" but it's a pretty good representation of one. If anyone cares to play around with it and make it better, or maybe use it in your own scene, then please do.

By the way, this scene was made from a very old scene of mine, and that's why I used lasers to decode keyboard keys. There are better ways to do that (e.g., keys.IsDown()), but it's good enough for this scene.

Update: I gave each of the six surfaces a different color so that the cube looks more "festive"!

Update: Increased color transparency from 50% to 70%. The cube just looks a little better IMHO.

Update: Got rid of lasers for decoding keys. Darkened the background slightly.

Update: Fixed the jerk that occurred on each axis when rotation angle switched between -pi and +pi.

This could be the basic cube shape that's required to make a playable 3D Rubik's Cube! You only need to stick 54 of them together in one large cube, and make the articulated layers rotate just like a real Rubik's Cube. A piece of cake, right? :lol:

I did not make the colors solid because the cube did not look right while rotating. With 50% transparency, it seems to look more like a 3D cube. I will work on it as time permits, and hopefully I'll be able to make a more convincing solid 3D cube.
