My second tank in my new lineup.
The British invented the tank, and I hadn't made a truly British tank yet, so here it is.
I know the tracks are a little buggy and I'll try to fix them.
Here's the backstory:
Late into the year 1942, the Cromwell, or The Cruiser MkVIII (A27M) proved to be a very versitile tank for the British Army, and many variants were introduced in the following years. Despite all its great features, it still was missing the powerfull gun tank crews had been lacking for so many years. The QF(Quick-Fire) 75mm was, as the name suggests, quick to fire, but still couldn't penetrate the majority of German armor, which by this stage in World War Two mostly consisted of Tiger Is, Tiger IIs, and Panther medium tanks. Overall, all of these tanks possesed strong armor, and that prevented the 75mm from doing any damage at a range. The British certainly had better guns, such at the QF-17 PDR(pounder) that was famously used in Sherman Fireflies, but lacked space in their turrets to house them. A few tank designs were brought to the table, but in the end, two prototypes remained. The A30 "Challenger", and the A31 "Fairfax". Although the Fairfax had thicker and better sloped armor, it still fell short of the gun requirements that the British needed. It had a powerful 76mm gun, just not powerful enough. These two tanks' primary role was to stay behind the frontlines, and provide fire support to tanks in the crossfire. The Fairfax's gun just wasn't up to the task, and the Challenger beat it with its well-favored QF 17-PDR, and went into mass production, and combat on the battlefield. After the war their was really no purpose for such an outdated tank design with a gun lagging behind the competition. By 1946 standards, the relativly recent tank was already obsolete, as tanks such as the Centurion were outclassing every previous tank design. Some ideas floated around to convert the single prototype into an armored engineer, but the Centurion once again replaced its role. Now, the Cruisier MkVIII (A31) "Fairfax" is located somewhere in Bovington, England, in The Tank Museum, waiting to shed its dust.
P.S. These backstories actually take a long time to create, so if you could give me some suggestions for my next tank/idea for its backstory, then that would be greatly appreciated
