Working Black Forest German-made cuckoo clock.
Features:
-Cuckoos once on the half hour and the correct number of times on the hour
-Night auto shut-off
-VDS certified Regula 25 movement, fully mechanical, with automatic night shutoff
-1-day winding
-Setting time made easy
-Rack strike mechanism - highly reliable, cuckoos correctly even when you drag the minute hand forwards fast
You can learn how the auto night-shutoff mechanism works, as this part of a cuckoo clock movement was a mystery to me, so I figured out a possible implementation of it.
Accuracy is not perfect. Like all cuckoo clocks, they are not precision time pieces. They are only treasured time pieces.
Operation instructions:
To find out if the clock is AM or PM: lift the night shut-off lever on the left side up to "off" position. Set the time to 11:55, then drag the lever to auto. Move the hands forward to 12:05. If the bird cuckoos, then it is 12:05 PM. Otherwise, it is 12:05 AM.
To set the time: Once you know if the clock is in AM or PM, move the lever to off and then turn the hands forwards or backwards to the correct time. Move the lever back to auto or on if you wish.
Night shut-off: Slowly lift the lever up with the drag tool. It should take half a second. Do not drag too fast as it may cause the mechanism to jam or malfunction. The lever is designed to be as reliable as possible. There are 3 positions:
On: the cuckoo is on every hour of the day.
Auto: the cuckoo will shutoff at 9 pm and turn back on at 8 am.
Off: the cuckoo will never cuckoo.
Winding: To wind the time train, press and hold enter. To wind the cuckoo chain, press and hold the up arrow key.
Kickstart the pendulum: press k and hold for half a second. |
