This is my 4 Cylinder engine with a 4 speed transmission.
The white dots in the above section act as fuel. They enter the piston, and as the piston goes up, the fuel combusts with the help of a laser, which pushes the piston back down.
Under the pistons, there are gears. These gears are connected to the Pistons using Connecting Rods, and those gears turn the bigger gear, the gold Flywheel.
The Flywheel turns a smaller white gear, and that white gear connects to the other gears next to it. This is the transmission. As the gears get bigger, so do their ratios.
--TIPS AND TRICKS--
You can press the left and right arrow keys to control the Starter Motor. The starter motor is in the Flywheel. Once the pistons move by themselves and start combusting, you can stop holding the arrow key
You can press the down arrow key to turn the igniton off. This stops the engine, and it needs to be restarted by using the starter motor.
You can pull up a plot graph on any of the gears, and compare them to another gear or the flywheel to see how the ratios make a difference.
I hope this Algodoo scene helps you learn how the insides of a basic 4 Cylinder Combustion Engine works, and how a basic transmission works.
--BUGS--
I am aware that sometimes the pistons freak out and glitch, but I dont know a way to fix this.
I also know the pistons' timing gets mixed randomly and it gets out of sync, but this is caused by the gears the pistons are connected to slipping.
And lastly, sometimes the fuel doesnt make its way down, but you can just use the drag tool and just drag it around and it should go in there |
