It was launched in 1971 in the United States to compete in the US market against small imported automobiles, and was a resounding commercial success.
The Ford Pinto, designed in a very short time and with very strict economy criteria, had two passive safety defects:

The fuel tank was behind the rear axle, so the car exploded very easily in a collision. This design flaw was shared by other Ford vehicles.
The bodywork was very flimsy, in the event of a rear-end collision the car was deformed and the doors were locked, trapping its occupants in a burning car. This problem was illustrated satirically by the movie Top Secret! in a memorable scene.1
The company was aware of safety issues in advance and assessed that resolving the failures was more expensive than paying compensation for deaths that would occur in accidents. For this reason it was decided to keep the car with the faults.
In the car I made, the scan function was not implemented,
