Aim the gun so that the bullet bounces off the walls of the maze
as few times as possible while it heads toward the exit gate.

An alternate challenge is to try to shoot the bullet so that it reaches
the exit gate with the MOST number of bounces off the walls.

You can post your best (highest or lowest) score in the comments.

Nice scene. I played with it for a while. I added a laser sight, but it didn't help. Overlapping walls cause double hits. I suggest eliminating overlaps since users may consider it unfair.

Then the challenge would become too easy. Keep in mind that kids play all kinds of very challenging digital games these days, and so they quickly get bored with a game that's too easy to win.

Thanks for the feedback.
xray, how do you sunscribe to users???
Click on the person's user name, and that will bring you to their profile page. At the bottom of their profile, you will see the word "Subscribe". Click on it!

You can also subscribe to a scene if you want to get updates when someone has left a comment. On the scene description page (like this one) you will see the word "Subscribe" just above the rating bar graph. When you are subscribed to a scene, the word "New Messages" will show up in bold letters at the top of any Algobox page. Click on New Messages, then you will be shown a list of links to comments or updates to the particular scene that you are subscribed to. You can also Unsubscribe at any time.
thank you so much!!!
is there a setting for it??
102!!!
Setting? :s
i cant see it...
Will you please be more precise? WHAT is it that you cannot see? I cannot read your mind!

the subscribe and rate button
say i wan tot subscribe to... dare for example. so i see his scene what do i do?
Instead of using the Algodoo built-in browser, use another browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Then you will see it.

Response: I automated this scene by spawning balls with tracers and a limited time to live. I've found that in order to get 8 hits, which I believe to be the minimum, that the target range is about 1 milliradian and that just being in the target range does not guarantee success. That left me thinking "How did Xray design such a small window of 8 hit success?". I figure that you probably did it thru automation or by trial and error.

Since hitting the corner puts you over 8 hits, double counts is a moot point.

Response: Winning isn't defined, so a user will never win and therefore never get bored.

Bonus Question: What is the effective Coefficient of Restitution between two materials when one material has a restitution of 0.5 and the other has a restitution of 2.0?

Wow! I never expected anyone to do such a detailed analysis on one of my scenes! But in case you were wondering how I designed it, this is how my thinking process went: 1. I recalled a scene that someone else made which solves a maze by shining a laser into it. You can rotate the laser until the minimum number of reflections off the walls are made until the beam reaches the outlet. 2. That scene made me wonder if a ball (an Algodoo circle) with the proper amount of restitution could be made to solve a maze in much the same way that a laser can. 3. I recalled a scene by tatt61880 (remember him?) which is a very clever maze generator, and I used that to generate different mazes for testing my bouncing ball idea. It worked perfectly. 4. I then generated a relatively small maze for my scene, and the one you see here is the one that I had chosen.

Is there an equation for that? I would assume that you add the two values in order to get the total effective restitution, but not sure. You would need to ask a mechanical engineer that question. ;)

Quote: " the target range is about 1 milliradian"

I didn't think it was anywhere near that precise! The reason is, I purposely built some mechanical slop into the gun mechanism in order to add to the challenge. e.g., If you leave the angle of the gun in one position and fire it 10 times, you will likely get 10 different bullet paths (within < 1 SD). You can also rotate the gun and find a different angle that will give you similar (not exact) results.

Be my guest if you would like to duplicate and improve and/or embellish this scene.
s_noonan - I think I remember reading somewhere in algodoo's console that restitution between two objects is calculated as the lesser of the two, but I had experimented to find that actually, it's most likely the product of the two.
UnityDogGaming04 and s_noonan -- I was wondering about that too, and so I did an experiment. I created a simple scene which has a ground plane and a circle with a centered tracer. After experimenting with various values of Restitution for the circle (call it R1) and for the plane (call it R2), it appears that the circle's bounce height is based upon the product of R1 and R2. For example, if the product of R1 and R2 equals 6, then each successive bounce height of the circle will be six times the height of each previous bounce height. This, of course, is with the gravity acceleration value set at the standard value of 9.8 m/S^2
43 is my score
Oops. I forgot to click subscribe for this scene. Sorry about the delayed response.

s_noonan: " the target range is about 1 milliradian"
Xray: I didn't think it was anywhere near that precise!

I agree after reading your explanation. With a perfect gun the target range is about 1 milliradian. With a sloppy gun the target range gets larger but the probability of getting 8 hits goes way down.

Xray: Be my guest if you would like to duplicate and improve and/or embellish this scene.
s_noonan: This scene is so optimized that it wouldn't be worth my time for the slight improvement, if any, I might make.

UnityDogGaming04: restitution between two objects is ... most likely the product of the two.
s_noonan: I concur.

New record that I have is 10
10? :o Good job!

The lowest i can get is 12
Well... that was definitely something interesting. The number of hits I got on my run was 35 hits.
Hey Xray, I think I can ask something here right? If so please tell me if I am allowed to make scenes with gore?
Unfortunately, there are lots of scenes in the Algodoo archive that have plenty of gore in them. Gore, by itself, is not against the rules, but make sure that you don't violate the rules in other ways such as by using profanity (cuss words) or sexual content.
Sure, thank you for answering. I was going to make a scene that includes a game that you can play that might have some gore.
NP!
High score (or low score) = 25
