I created a basic simulation of earth and moon (sizes, distances, and water level not to scale) that includes slightly visible tides and an approximation of the moon's orbit with an ellipse. Let time pass and it will appear quickly that the moon is flying away. This is because of the earth's spin. Tides get ahead of the moon and pull it slightly prograde (forthward), expanding it's orbit, increasing its orbital period and semimajor axis until it flies off to become a dwarf planet near earth's orbit. by then, it might even fly into earth or pass it by very close, creating intense tides, even increasing or decreasing earth's rotational speed. People of the future, should we stay on earth, will not be able to enjoy the glory of a full slar eclipse, since the moon is moving away at 3.78 cm (1.48 in) per year, which is about the speed of which our fingernails grow.
