well here`s a german 88 gun from ww2. its not meant to be a complete lookalike, it barely resembles one. but otherwise it works fair. copy the shells to gain new ones (obviously)
it the shells havee an explode effect that sometimes trigger when they hit the ground. there are at some angles that the gun wont fire as well as on some others.

You failed miserably with shells being collision group C and warhead having no collision group.
most people do targets using only group A

wanna improve this one to? go ahead. the warheads have no collision group so that the "explosion" objects will easily trigger

or you may go for my bomb example for a idea. it explodes at a 1000 ns impact, but you may reduce it for weaker gun types. what one was designed for a water rocket, but i removed the water thruster because it had not enough control...Had to stabilize the water rocket module with a lucid stabilizer through... http://www.phunbox.net/details/16056/

Gives a nice boom effect, withstands non-intended impacts, and can vaporize buildings more than 100x heavier than the bomb itself
